The Governor Urges Federal Government to Rethink Economic Policies
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has expressed deep concern over the nation's economic trajectory, asserting that current federal policies are exacerbating hardships for Nigerians. He conveyed these sentiments during a meeting of the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee with North-East governors and key stakeholders in Bauchi. The gathering included the Governors of Bauchi and Taraba states, along with the acting PDP National Chairman.
Governor Fintiri emphasized the severity of the nation's challenges, stating, "Nigeria is bleeding; we are suffering. There is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working." He urged the Federal Government to reassess its economic strategies, highlighting the importance of implementing policies that alleviate, rather than intensify, the populace's struggles. "Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community," he added.
Reflecting on the nature of leadership, Fintiri remarked that holding a position of power is a privilege granted by God, necessitating governance rooted in trust and responsibility.
On party unity, the governor affirmed that the three North-East governors are committed to fortifying the PDP's presence in the region. He noted the party's success in the last presidential election, stating, "There is no state in the zone that PDP lost. Even the one we lost in Borno, up until now, we are still wondering how we lost that election because we know we did not lose that election in Borno."
Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, acknowledged internal disunity as a significant factor in the party's previous electoral setbacks. He emphasized the committee's dedication to addressing these issues, stating, "We are here to interact with our leadership and membership of our great party so that we can discuss where we are falling short of what we were supposed to do, which led to the outcome we witnessed."
The meeting underscored the PDP's commitment to introspection and unity as it seeks to strengthen its position in the North-East and across Nigeria.
